Well, I’m Shannon. I’m 23 years old. I’m studying sociology and anthropology at Curtin University and I love it! I originally started off as a history student and at some stage I hope to throw some archaeology, linguistics and literature into the mix. I love the academic lifestyle, even though I am always broke, and I’d be quite happy to be at university for the rest of my life.
I am a pagan, a hedge witch, which means I celebrate seasonal and lunar dates and not Christmas or Easter. Ipractise yoga and meditation, use tarot cards, rune stones and crystals and I also create spell jewelry – charms and amulets. I worship a wide variety of deities, but it all boils down to something which cannot be named, which I have termed ‘the Observer’ which is both inside and outside of all of us. I love learning about metaphysics and quantum theory and alchemy, but I’m also a sucker for folk tales and old herbal remedies. One day I hope to open my own naturopathy clinic and sell handmade jewelry, candles, lotions and potions on the side.
I love animals, especially horses and anything from the feline family. One day I’m going to the very tip of North American to photograph polar bears. In the meantime, I stalk my pets and any local wildlife with my Pentax DSLR while running a David Attenborough commentary in my head – “and now the dog scratches herself on the back, unaware that the camera is about to..”
I love tattoos and one day hope to have the entire back of my body covered in them.
Kaidin is my son. He’s 5 and attends pre-primary at North Mandurah Primary School. He loves to swim and watch Simpsons. He’s hyperactive and brilliant and has an attention span of about 20 seconds, which makes me very glad he is at school now. He was born 12 02 2002, so he’s an Aquarius baby, he wants to grow up to be an artist or a scientist and is terrified that one day I’m going to turn him into a ‘gampire’.
We have four cats – Ninja, a persian/burmese/moggy kitten; MoMo, a 2 year old part burmese; Jet, a 2 year old part Burmese and Gemini, a 1 1/2 year old very fluffy moggy who constantly has chunks of hair cut off because he gets dreadlocks even when we brush him every day. Jet loves high places and is usually asleep on top of a cupboard or bookshelf somewhere. Gemini is a very people oriented cat, he is usually annoying someone for food or cuddles and shedding over everything. MoMo loves annoying the dog by refusing to let her chase him. He is the king of all the cats. Ninja is a very shy, timid thing, the only girl, who spends most of her time hiding in the garden or behind furniture and only comes out for treats. Our house is cat central and usually there is a minimum of four cats in our yard at any one time and only two of them will be ours!
Our dog is called Pepper. She is a part Akita puppy that we bought from K9 Dog Rescue. We have only had her for a few months and she drives everyone nuts by chewing everything she can get her paws on (including my plastic wrapped brand new moleskin journal. bad dog!) and digging holes in the lawn, even though she knows it’s wrong. The dog has issues – if you raise your voice at her she pees everywhere. She is a lovely dog though, very sweet natured and wouldn’t hurt afly. She loves walk time and playing in the yard and she sleeps on the end on my bed.
